How to rearrange when life calls for it

It’s been a while since I sat down and mapped out what my days look like and how I work my routines. I did it back here in August of last year (so almost a year ago!), so it’s about time I let you all in again.

My days look a little different than back then. For one, I have a lot more on my plate. I work for several different people/organizations and so I HAVE to fit work in throughout the day. Have you noticed a lack in my posting? šŸ™ I don’t like it and would love to be on here more often, but it’s been so hard to fit this in. I really do enjoy blogging and so that’s been hard for me – not having the time to sit and write like I used to.

Alright, back to what my days look like;

5:30 am – up and shower first thing. Why do I shower right away? Well, because I never know if I would be able to shower, otherwise, lol! Honestly, if I didn’t shower immediately when I wake up, I may not get a chance the rest of the day. For real. So I shower and then run the dog out to do her business and feed her. I am sitting in the living room, with my laptop to work, between 5:45 am and 6:00 am. I work until at least 7 am OR, if I’m blessed and my son sleeps in longer, I work until he wakes up (which is never longer than 7:15-7:30 am and happens about once every other month, lol!). Once he’s up, I get him dressed and fed. I make coffee for my husband and I. Vitamins are handed out and breakfast is cleaned up.

7:50 am – We say good-bye to daddy as he heads off to work and then I complete whatever the daily chore is (with a few extra’s thrown in, here and there).

8:15 am – Once the chore(s) is/are complete, I head to the basement for my daily workout. My son will accompany me down there and play. If J (the boy I babysit) is there by this time, he (obviously) goes with us.

9 am – Once I’m done working out, then it’s all playtime for the remainder of the morning. I have made this conscience choice that mornings (after workout and chores) are for playing with the boys and ensuring that we’re active and working our imaginations. So we either play outside (at home), go for a walk (locally), go to a playground or a park, play in the kiddie pool and/or bouncy house, or just pull out the toy tractors and dig in the rocks and dirt for awhile.

11:30 am – lunch time. If it’s nice, we may eat outside! More times than not, this is what we do. I’m not joking when I say that we spend the majority of our awake time outdoors, folks! šŸ™‚

12 pm – my husband comes home for his lunch break, most days. We’re very blessed that he works close enough that he’s able to do this. We don’t take this for granted. He hasn’t always been able to do this so we really enjoy having this mid-day time together.

1 pm – daddy goes back to work and we start settling in for naps.

1:30 pm – naps are occurring so I’m now doing 1 of 2 things. I’ve inventoried, by this time, how much work I have left to do for the day. If I have the time, I will take 30 minutes for myself and head outside (if it’s nice). I will sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and warmth.

If I don’t have the time, then it’s right to work for me. Otherwise, work will start at 2 pm. I then work until the boys wake up from naps, which is between 3:30 – 4 pm. Once J is picked up around 4:15 – 4:30 pm, my son and I will play until daddy comes home, with my preparing dinner as well.

5:15 pm – daddy comes home. I try to have dinner ready by the time he comes home. In the winter, I normally don’t have dinner ready until 6, but since it’s summer, I like to have dinner earlier, so we have more time to play or go somewhere (again, a park, bike ride, or just play outside) as a family. I just started doing the early dinner thing this summer and I might keep up with it this winter as well. It’s nice to not be rushed right from dinner into the bedtime routine. šŸ™‚

6 – 7:45 pm – this is free time. We play and do whatever we want as a family. We enjoy our time together.

8 pm – bedtime for our son. We put him to bed and then, prayerfully, I do not have any more work to do. On the rare occasion, I may have a few things to do, but I try to make sure that I get everything done in the early morning and during nap time so that I don’t have to work in the evening.

10 pm – I am off to bed, hopefully. Lately, I haven’t been getting to bed until about 10:30 pm, no matter how well my intentions are to be in bed by 10 pm.

There you have it – a day in my life. I live a “normal” life. I am working hard to get out of debt and that means that almost every single second of my waking hours are accounted for. I do not have “free” time where I just sit around, bored. In fact, I do not know the last time I was bored. Honestly. I don’t have any books I am reading, currently, because I am so busy. Even when I’m outside for those precious 30 minutes that I allow myself? I am not reading. I am silent. I am either sitting quietly or laying down outside. I do not read, I don’t sit on my phone and I don’t talk to anyone, unless I am praying about something. I am still and silent and trying to just breathe, enjoying nothing going on and centering myself again. šŸ™‚

What about you? Do you have a set routine? Do you have something that you try to do every day to center yourself? I would love to hear from you!
